Task Force on Online Panels
Session: Session C: T8:00 - 9:30 AM Time: Thursday, 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM Session Type: Round Table Track:
Members of the newest AAPOR Task Force on Measuring and Reporting Data Quality Metrics for Online Panels will be presenting on the work that was conducted during the past year and provide an overview of the final report set to be distributed to membership during the summer of 2022. This includes a short overview of the landscape of online survey data collection but focuses on how the methodologies for initial recruitment, survey sampling, panel freshening, respondent attrition, and missing data may impact data quality, and fit-for-purpose inferences. The task force will outline clear ways to assess the quality of online samples and precision of estimates generated from them including calculating well-known measures such as cumulative response rates, and cooperation rates, and sensitivity and bias analysis, as well as new metrics specific to online panels such as realization rates and termination rates. Following the structure provided by previous Task Forces and the AAPOR Transparency Initiative, the goal of the final report aims to equip researchers who are wanting to conduct research using online panels with the essential questions to engage with before designing their studies. This roundtable will summarize the report and provide a platform for discussion around these relevant issues.
